My parents got divorced when I was in 8th grade and all of my older brothers had left home, so in highschool I was a young man without a family.

I was naturally attracted to Good families and when I met Matt Boever halfway through my Freshman year of highschool, I quickly learned that he came from one of the best. Wally and Katie Boever had 8 children and Matt was their oldest. They lived near me and so throughout highschool I spent time at their house whether Matt was there or not.

The busy - nes, the spirit, and the joy in that house was palpable and never more so then during their nightly ritual, the family rosary. The Boevers prayed a family Rosary just about every night, either before or after dinner and more than once I made it over to their house during this time. And though Katie Boever probably thought it was because of the meals it was really about the spiritual nourishment I was getting from this glorious yet simple family.

I continued to visit the family throughout College and today my children count Matt’s children as almost Brothers and Sisters; 3 members of the Boever family serve as Godparents to my children and Wally and Katie stand as the example of married love and parenthood for which Teresa and I strive.

And whenever Teresa and I are getting off course, we try to focus back on a really important question: “What would Wally and Katie do?” And the reason is that Wally and Katie Boever have the 8 happiest kids I have ever met. They each are close to God and have made really super choices of who to marry. And really, what else is there?

So my question for you is “Who is your Boever Family”? And if you don’t have one….I will be glad to share mine with you :)
